About this project

Morrow Engineering was retained in for consulting, electrical design, and commissioning roles in the construction of a new agricultural shipping system constructed at Alliance Grain Terminals (AGT) in Vancouver, BC. AGT’s existing shipping system was aging and required large amounts of annual maintenance. A newer, more competitive shipping system was desired to be integrated into the existing terminal.

The shipping system consisted of multiple new conveyors, shipping scales, and a new shiploader. Morrow Engineering also provided programming services for the new shiploader. The shiploader was mechanically designed by EMS Tech and installed by Dynamic Installations, using the Dynamic Beast, a heavy lift crane barge that Morrow Engineering had commissioned with Dynamic with the previous year. The entire system was built to reliably load grains and other agricultural products at rates of 2000 tonnes per hour.

This was a challenging project, as the whole new shipping system was to be completed during a two month shutdown during the summer of 2018, and any delays would disrupt AGT’s fall shipping schedule. As AGT adapted to its new equipment, Morrow Engineering assisted in refining the system to ensure operations and maintenance targets were met.
